He was the administrator of one of five sectors of Imperial Research and Development, and ran his facilities with an iron fist. Coming from the powerful, affluent house of Ferrum, he was raised with a silver spoon in his mouth, and learned from a young age who to seduce, and who to crush under his heel. With many members of the Empire’s senate once in his pocket, combined with his prestigious rank and pedigree, there were few men in the Empire who hold as much power as Marius.6.0 spoilers to follow:Following the events of the Final Days, Marius has temporarily relocated to Coerthas. He has been reclusive as he bides his time, slowly weaving his plans to return to power.

Detailed Information

Appearance

Marius is larger than life, both physically and metaphorically. Imposing is an understatement with the man, standing at a full 7’7”, his build wide, muscular and solid. He keeps an impeccable appearance, blond hair cropped short and properly clean-shaven. Despite access to magitek to repair such, there are long, vicious old scars that run down the left side of his face, from his temple to his wide, square jaw. He bears the distinct eye-color common to the Ferrums, being an icy, pale blue. It is rare for Marius to not look presentable. He will typically dress uniforms, richly decorated as is befitting for his station, unless he expects to be dealing with a hands-on project instead of merely dealing with administrative duties. He wears no jewelry beyond a simple silver wedding band which is often hidden beneath his gloves.

  • Nerilla goe Ferrum - Wife - Marius and Nerilla, while married for over twenty years, have never had a warm relationship. This is, in part, due to Marius's dedication to his work, as well as his preference for male lovers. They are both headstrong and brash, their conflicts often turning to furious arguments and broken furniture. The longer they are together, the more their relationship seems to sour.

  • Zelos cen Ferrum - Son - Marius's first and only son with his wife, Nerilla. An attempt on Nerilla's life sent her away before the child was born. Despite both surviving, Marius has never met the now 3-year-old child, and has made it abundantly clear that he has no interest in doing so.

  • Aurix nan Otus - Former Apprentice - Marius had taken in the orphaned Aurix in his teens, grooming the young man into a scientist capable of taking over his legacy should he die prematurely. They have drifted apart in recent years, though Aurix is only one of two people who can calm Marius from his violent temper.

  • Victor mal Argyris - Protégé - If Marius had any soft spots to him at all, it would be with his chaotic, violent protégé, Victor. While Marius admires Victor's dedication to his work, he is often amused by the young man's tantrums and destructive nature. Marius allows Victor to get away with literally murder with no true consequence. Marius has kept Victor close following the Final Days and their flight to Coerthas, allowing only him to share his living space... Though it may be because he does not trust Victor to be on his own.

  • Valerius mal Prium - Former Personal Assistant - Marius's recruitment of Valerius was met with scrutiny due to the young man's reputation to being unstable, but he chose to disregard concerns and resistance, recognizing that Valerius had potential that no one would allow him to fulfill. Due to Valerius's unpredictable nature, Marius kept his distance from him, instead using him to attend and perform social functions in his place. Valerius is presumed dead following the events of the Final Days.

  • Khadgar quo Aartisan - Subordinate - Marius has made little effort to hide his disdain for Khadgar - a security officer formerly under his command. Often he calls the man incompetent and foolish, yet he chose to promote him to his senior staff regardless of these grumblings. He has not taken the time to know him well, apparently having little interest in doing so. Marius lost contact with Khadgar following the events of the Final Days.

  • **Leif bas Malum - Former Subordinate - ** For all of Marius's tempestuous relationships, he has found a rare level of respect for the conscripted Viera who once served as part of his security teams. Leif's efforts during that time had saved the lives of Marius's inner circle on more than one occasion. As such, Marius is more willing to make exceptions and extend his influence to help Leif in his goals.

  • Velus rem Incultus - One of Marius's oldest acquaintances, and closest friends. Velus was perhaps one of the only people Marius considered to be not only his equal, but someone he could trust and allow himself to relax with him. It is no surprise then that Velus's death during the civil war is something Marius's still feels keenly.

  • Garlean High Society. Marius was raised in the highest social circles within the Empire, and maintains connections within them. His family is as famous as they come, and anyone who is anyone would want to be invited to one of their parties. He regularly held fundraisers for his research, catering to the darkest desires of Garlemald’s elite.

  • Members and alumni of the Magitek Academy. Marius was an instructor at the Magitek Academy for a number of years. He regularly would sponsor any young men who were ruthless in their academic pursuits, and even would make places in his facilities for them when they graduated.

  • Test Subjects. Marius’s research, while highly confidential, required a steady stream of live subjects, usually taken from Eorzea. He is most fond of using miqo’te in his work.

  • Old Contacts. Although Marius doesn't travel as much as he used to, in earlier years, he often traveled to other parts of the world for his research. The Twelveswood and Coerthas were among the most common destinations, while he has not revisited the Far East in over two decades.
